Kathmandu: The CPN (UML) has received formal complaints from eight district committees regarding disputes in the selection of representatives for the party’s 11th general convention, scheduled for December 13–15.
Madhav Dhungel, Secretary of the General Convention Representatives’ Management Committee, confirmed that complaints were filed at the party’s central office citing procedural lapses in the selection process. The districts reporting disputes include Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Dang, Banke, Bajhang, Tanahun, Bara and Rautahat.
According to Dhungel, the concerns relate to representatives not being chosen in line with the established party procedures. He assured that the issues would be resolved soon through internal mechanisms.
The selection process for the UML’s forthcoming national general convention was conducted on Saturday. Approximately 2,200 representatives are being chosen from the party’s organized membership. Each federal electoral constituency is guaranteed at least one youth representative.
In addition, 45 representatives will be elected from provincial committees, around 1,000 from parliamentary constituencies, 47 from special district committees, 81 from the Dalit community, and 40 from trade unions.
As per party rules, 354 members of the organizing central committee automatically qualify as convention representatives. Also automatically included are 29 representatives from the Central Discipline Commission, 30 from the Audit Commission, 25 from the Election Commission, and 25 from the Advisory Council—bringing the total number of automatic representatives to 464.
